DIY Water Fountain with Pots

Water fountains are great additions to any garden or outdoor space. They add a sense of serenity and calmness to the environment, and the sound of flowing water can be very soothing. Creating your own water fountain may seem like a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be. In this article, we will show you how to make a beautiful DIY water fountain with pots.

Materials Needed

Before we begin, let's take a look at the materials you will need:

  • Large ceramic pot
  • Small ceramic pot
  • Water pump
  • Tubing
  • Rocks/pebbles
  • Plants (optional)

Building the Fountain

Step 1: Choose Your Pots

The first step is to choose the pots you will use for your fountain. You will need one large ceramic pot and one small ceramic pot. The small pot will sit inside the larger pot and hold the water pump.

Step 2: Drill Holes

Using a drill bit, carefully drill a hole in the bottom of each pot. You will also need to drill a hole in the side of the large pot, near the bottom, for the tubing.

Step 3: Install the Pump

Insert the water pump into the small pot and thread the tubing through the hole in the side of the large pot. Make sure the pump is submerged in water.

Step 4: Add Rocks and Plants

Arrange rocks or pebbles around the pump to help hide it. You can also add plants, such as water lilies, to give your fountain a natural feel.

Step 5: Fill with Water and Enjoy

Fill the larger pot with water, making sure the water level covers the pump. Plug in the pump and enjoy the serene sound of flowing water.

Troubleshooting

If you're having trouble getting your DIY water fountain to work properly, here are some things to check:

Pump Issues

Make sure the pump is fully submerged in water and that there are no kinks or blockages in the tubing.

Water Level

Check the water level in the larger pot. If it's too low, the pump won't get enough water and won't work properly.

Power Issues

Make sure the outlet you're using is working properly and that the cord is plugged in securely.

Maintenance

To keep your DIY water fountain running smoothly, you'll need to perform regular maintenance:

Clean the Pump

Remove the pump from the small pot and clean it thoroughly to remove any debris or buildup.

Replace Water Regularly

Regularly replace the water in the fountain to prevent the growth of algae and other unwanted organisms.

Winterize Your Fountain

If you live in an area with harsh winters, you'll need to winterize your fountain to prevent damage. Remove the pump and tubing, drain the water, and store the pots indoors.
